Sandwich Carnival Association has picked not seven but eight new faces to represent the town at carnivals around the county.
The annual selections were held at St Clement’s Hall on Sunday before a celebratory disco attended by other courts.
Management say they would usually recruit just seven people, but a new Little Miss reserve position was created to avoid disappointment between the only two youngsters entering that category.
Alice Watson, 14, of Dover Road, was crowned Miss Sandwich 2017.
The Goodwin Academy pupil said her hobbies were singing and acting and she’s recently appeared in Sleeping Beauty at the Winter Gardens in Margate.
Court manager Kerrie Disney said: “Alice has dyslexia and wants to help others that struggle with it.
“We think she will be a good ambassador for Sandwich.”
Holly White, 13, and Mykayla Stacey, 16, were made senior princesses.
There were six entrants for the junior court. Summer Grace, 11, was named junior queen.
Princess pairs went to Poppy McCairn, 11, and eight-year-old Fleur de Bruxelles.
Completing the court is Isla Howard, seven, who was given the Little Miss sash and Daisy Simpson, five, as reserve.
Mrs Disney said: “It was a fantastic evening.”
