This weekend Sandwich will come alive with entertainment, stalls, and music at the annual Sandwich Festival.

It started with the annual Bun Run on Monday at St Bart's Chapel.

Children and adults took on the race for a well-deserved bun.

Today (Saturday) it will all start with the Brocante on the Quay Green from 10am.

From 10.30am there will be the circus workshop, including stilt walking, magic shows, juggling and balloon modelling hosted by Juggle It All.

Sandwich Carnival will run from 4pm until 6pm with the procession from Sandwich Technology School.

This will be immediately followed by the barn dance in Market Street.

Music will be provided by Smalltown Romance, with caller Sue Hudson.

The final event will be the Illuminated Boat Parade at 10pm tonight on the Quay.

Ramsgate Old Motor and Motorcycle Club will once again host a display for bike enthusiasts at the Guildhall Forecourt tomorrow (Sunday) from 9am until 1pm.

Italian produce and treats will also be available at the market in Market Street from 10am and more from the brocante as well.

From noon there will be music in the Salutation Gardens at £20 per adult.

A traditional medieval game of bat and trap will take place on the Quay Green from 2pm, with the tournament starting at 3pm.

For those that want a more relaxed afternoon there will be music with Bay Jazz Band in the King’s Arms garden, followed by a festival of praise at St Mary’s Church.

Bank holiday Monday will start with more Italian treats in Market Street from 10am, and Polly and Paloma’s Handmade Happenings at the Guildhall, and a historic walk around town from 2.30pm.

The Quay will be a hub of activity, with Sandwich’s Classic Car Collection on display from 11am until 5pm and the duck race from 3.15pm.

The White Mill Heritage Centre in Ash Road will also be open all weekend with plenty of historical exhibits.

The Guildhall Museum will also be open during the festival with plenty of artefacts. Entry is £1.

On the Sunday, there will be the Futures for Dogs family fun dog show and fete at Sandwich Showground, Ash Road.

Celebrity judges including Cameron Jack from The Bill will pick winners from 40 classes of all shapes, sizes and breeds.

Mandy Samuel from Futures for Dogs, said: “We just can’t get our heads around how long we have been doing this and how each year it gets bigger.

“The show is a fun day for all and this has been proved by people coming from all over Kent to see us.”

Also on Sunday and Monday, August 31, there will be the Wildlife and Countryside Fair at Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory, Guilford Road.

Kent’s wildlife organisations will demonstrate bird ringing and moth trapping, dissecting owl pellets, as well as displays on flora and fauna, stalls, competitions and children’s activities. This is open from 10am until 4pm.

Sandwich History Society will be giving free tours of the town on Monday as part of the festival.
