The Romanian widower who was married to an 81-year-old retired Kent priest is selling the couple's home a year after his husband's death.

Florin Marin, 28, says he is putting the luxury flat in Bucharest left by his late husband Philip Clements on the market.

The news was greeted with horror by Mr Clements' family.

One of his brothers, retired postman Anthony Clements, accused Mr Marin of being a "gold-digger".

Speaking to Mail Online he said: "Florin is nothing but a gold-digger. And now he has got what he wanted. The man is a disgrace. I made my feelings clear many times. Florin has cashed in and has done very well out of my brother. The whole family feels the same way."

He added: "We were supposed to inherit Philip’s estate but now it’s all gone to Florin. It’s not about the money because I would rather have my brother alive. What angers us is the way he’s been treated by his husband."

He described his late brother as "a very intelligent man but not very streetwise" and admitted: "It was easy to pull the wool over his eyes and take advantage of him. I could see what was going on but sadly he couldn’t."

Mr Marin, a male model, says he wants a "fresh start" and will spend the cash on a new house and car.

Mr Clements, who moved to Bucharest to be with Mr Marin after selling his house in Eastry near Sandwich, died alone in hospital on May 31, 2020, leaving all of his £250,000 fortune to his "toy boy".

Mr Marin told Mail Online: "I decided to sell the flat that Philip bought for me. I know a lot of people are thinking 'Oh. Florin is coming up poor.' No darling - I sell it because I wanted to make a change in my life not because I need money. I sell it because I want to be more relaxed and close this story. It doesn't mean that I don't want to think about my ex-husband."

He complained that he had become the target of gold-diggers because of his new-found wealth.

He said: "After Philip passed away a lot of people were interested in having a relationship with me. I know why. Because of all the money left to me. I know that from beginning the money will be coming up with a lot of people but I'm not stupid."

The "odd couple", who appeared on the axed Jeremy Kyle ITV show, met on the gay dating site Grindr when Mr Clements was 75 and married in Kent three years ago.

Mr Clements had only recently moved back in with his partner before his death after a separation following rows about Mr Marin's night-clubbing lifestyle.

Mr Marin said: "He told me he didn't know how long he had to live but he wanted to die happy."

The former vicar fell ill with a temperature and was taken to a hospital in the Romanian capital after running out of medication for a heart condition during the coronavirus lockdown. Although he tested negative for Covid-19, he died alone on May 31 because of the lockdown restrictions.

Mail Online says Mr Marin banned his husband's family from attending the funeral.
