A prominent councillor for Sandwich and the Dover district has resigned.
Michael J Holloway (MJ) had been deputy leader of Dover District Council but he stepped down with effect from Thursday, June 24.
Both the town and district councils confirmed this and a DDC spokesman said: "We can confirm that MJ Holloway has resigned as a Dover District Councillor."
The Conservative was elected to onto Sandwich town and Dover district councils on May 7, 2015 with 827 and 1737 votes respectively.
He was re-elected to both authorities on May 2, 2019 with 480 votes (town) and 883 votes (district).
During his six years in public service he represented the Sandwich North ward and was a portfolio holder on the district council.
Mr Holloway was brought up in Canterbury where he attended St Edmund's School, and later the University for Creative Arts.
He lived in Guildcourt Lane, Sandwich and then moved to Canterbury.
He was Cabinet Member for Community Services (October 2017-2019), Cabinet Member for Community and Tourism (2019-2020), Cabinet Member for Inward Investment and Tourism 2020-2021 and had been Deputy Leader of the Council from October 2019 to June 21.
He also served on Overview and Scrutiny Committee (before joining the Cabinet), Dover Joint Transportation Board, East Kent Services Committee and several Project Advisory Groups.
The reason for the resignation has not been revealed.
His name has been removed from the online lists of councillors for both Dover District Council and Sandwich town Council.
