A driver fled the scene after a 4x4 crashed into a stream.

The Land Rover Discovery was found in the water in Sandwich just after 9am yesterday when police officers were called.

It is understood the driver then ran away from the scene as nobody was in the Land Rover when it was discovered.

No injuries have been reported.

It is also unclear exactly when the incident in Sandown Road happened.

Two fire engines and a water safety unit also arrived to assist police in recovering the vehicle before leaving at 10.30am.

Paramedics were made aware of the incident but were stood down due to there being no patient at the scene.
