A horrified family ended up with insects for dinner when they found weevils among the baked beans they were eating.
Hannah, her husband Tim and six-year-old son Louie had already tucked in to the contents of a contaminated tin when they made the shocking discovery.
They did not fall ill but they found the three other tins from the same four-pack they had bought also had the dead creatures, which they believe were bean weevils.
Hannah, of Eastry, between Deal and Sandwich, told KentOnline: “We were slightly put off baked beans to say the least. We all felt disgusted, shocked and horrified.”
The family found at least seven of the creatures, a type of beetle, inside the tins on Wednesday, April 19.
The cans of Lidl Newgate brand baked beans had been bought at the Whitfield branch on March 27.
On the day of the discovery, Hannah - who asked for her surname to not be included - contacted the chain’s customer services department and the details were passed on to the quality control section.
She also passed on, at the company's request, photographs and further details of the items and where they were bought.
Hannah said: “The response from Lidl was that they assured us of their high standards and no pest control issues have arisen from their supplier, however they would continue to monitor the situation.”
She was given a £15 voucher for compensation but is demanding that this particular product is recalled.
The tins had a use-by date of November 24, 2024.
She said: “I feel this needs to be shared with others who shop at Lidl for them to check batch numbers and check for beetles buried in the beans.”
A spokesman for Lidl said bosses are carrying out a review.
“We were very sorry to hear of this matter, as it is never our intention for a customer to be dissatisfied in any way," they said.
“We work very closely with our suppliers to ensure that the products we sell are of the highest possible quality for our customers.
“We are, therefore, disappointed if our expected high standards were not met on this occasion.
"Following initial contact from the customer with our customer services team, the matter was immediately escalated to our quality assurance team, who are carrying out a full investigation with the supplier."
