Drugs company Pfizer has been recognised for its green credentials.

It is one of the top 50 environmentally friendly companies in the country, according to a survey in a national newspaper.

In the first Sunday Times 50 Best Green Companies listing, Pfizer Global Research & Development at Sandwich was acknowledged for its commitment to reduce its impact on the environment.

The survey took account of the views of employees as well as assessing the environment, performance, policies and business practices of the company.

A number of environmental programmes led to Pfizer being placed in the list including the green chemistry programme, which has reduced the consumption of major chemicals used during the discovery and development work on new medicines and improved recycling.
