A post on X from Kent County Council (KCC) Highways on Tuesday said: “Due to works planned to be undertaken by SGN it will be necessary to close part of High Street, Sandwich, from February 19 with estimated completion by February 26.”

KCC explains that the work is for just outside one property for a new gas connection.

The street will be shut close to the Masonic Hall, as shown by signs and barriers.

Motorists travelling southbound will need to go via High Street, The Quay, Knightrider Street, Upper Strand Street and back onto High Street.

Northbound traffic will be diverted via High Street, The Chain, Gallard Street, New Street, Dover Road, St Barts Road, Woodnesborough Road, Moat Sole, Cattle Market, Harnet Street and Strand Street.

Pedestrian access will continue during the works.

The message from KCC Highways also said: “The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce.”
