Funds are being raised for a 'lasting tribute' to a pensioner who died after being hit by a car.
Ray Hooker, 80, was pronounced dead along the A257 Ash Bypass, between Sandwich and Ash, last Monday (January 24).
Police and ambulance crews were called to the road after he was discovered just after 6.50am.
It was initially not known how he came by his injuries.
But following inquiries, police believe Mr Hooker was a pedestrian who was struck by a black BMW at about 6.45am.
The vehicle was not at the scene when police arrived, but a woman was arrested later that day on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
She has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.
Since then, an online crowdfunding page has been set up to raise money for a memorial to Mr Hooker, who lived in Ash.
The Justgiving page, set up by Hannah Fitzgerald, reads: "Weʼre raising £1,000 to create a tribute in memory of Ray Hooker.
"With the blessing of Ray’s family, this fund has been set up to collect donations in memory of Ray, who tragically passed away on Monday, January 24, in Ash.
"The proceeds from this fund will be used to create a lasting tribute to Ray, with suggestions welcomed.
"Potentially a new tree or bench at Pound Corner, where he loved to sit.
"He was a beloved member of the community here in Ash, and will be missed by many who met him walking in the countryside he enjoyed so much."
At the time of writing, more than £600 had been collected.
Almost 20 bunches of flowers have been placed on the roadside, believed to be close to where the accident took place. Purple crocuses have also been planted.
Among the tributes is a note from the McCann family who wrote: "We will miss seeing you on a sunny day and chatting about the weather."
Another addresed Mr Hooker as "The Ash walker" and continued: "So sorry what has happened to you. I will remember you always walking."
Mr Hooker was also well known in Sandwich.
Dan Friend, head of retail at Sandwich Age Concern said: "Ray will be greatly missed, not only by us here at Age Concern but by the community in which he was so well known and loved.
"His devastating loss has left a massive void to so many.
"He touched countless lives through the generations through his generosity and kindness of spirit.
"We will forever be inspired by his daily marathon walks and remember with fondness his kind gestures and his ability to just chat away and always raise a smile!
"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time."
Donations are also being collected at the Co-op in Ash, and at St Peter's Church in Sandwich.
AnneMarie Huigen, community coordinator at the church, said they would also like to also get a bench for outside the church, where Mr Hooker would like to sit.
