Television and football star Ian Wright popped into a village cafe in Kent for a full English breakfast.
The former England player stopped at Juliet’s Farm Shop and Cafe in Ash, near Sandwich, yesterday morning, where he enjoyed the mid-week treat, sharing a video of his visit on TikTok.
Sam Baxter was working at the cafe, owned by her sister Juliet Laslett, when the celebrity, 60, visited with three others.
But Ms Baxter says she did not recognise the Match of the Day pundit when she greeted him at the door.
She said: “It was about 10.30am and we were very busy and I was just being my normal happy self, greeting everybody,” she said.
“He asked for a table for four and I sat them down like I would for any other customer.
“I found him a seat which unfortunately at the time was in the middle of the cafe which was a bit on show but he didn’t seem to mind.
“I was so wrapped up in the moment of doing my job that it was only when some other customers said who he was that I realised.
“He was so nice and very unassuming. He didn’t demand anything and I actually had a free booth that I could seat them in so they weren’t on show as much.”
The 57-year-old said she managed to convince the former Arsenal and Crystal Palace player to have a full English breakfast.
“He ordered a bacon sandwich and I joked ‘surely you can’t just have a bacon sandwich, you want a full English’.
“I kind of talked him into having a larger breakfast but I would do this with any customer because that’s what we're known for – our full English breakfasts with our fresh chicken eggs.”
During his visit, Ian made a TikTok which he shared later in the day. He has 1.9 million followers on the social media platform.
In the clip, which so far has 4,643 likes, he says: “Full English breakfast, I love it.
“I don’t normally have toast but it looks too good to not have.”
The video is captioned “Lovely English breakfast at Juliet’s Farm Shop.”
Ms Baxter says it was amazing to see the video and great for the business.
“I didn’t know they were filming it at the time and only saw it in the afternoon,” she added.
“We were so pleased to see it – obviously it’s a great advert for us. It’s lovely he put it on there.
‘He was so nice and very unassuming, he didn’t demand anything...’
“We’re a little cafe in the middle of the village and we don’t advertise but we are always busy, we have a great and loyal customer base.”
She described Mr Wright as “gracious” and said he was happy to have selfies with customers and speak to them.
It is thought the broadcaster was filming in the area, but it’s not known what for.
Juliet’s Farm Shop and Cafe launched 10 years ago, after Ms Laslett started selling fruit and veg from a small shed, before opening the cafe in 2017.
Her sister, who works in front of the house, says it has gone from strength to strength and it was not long before they expanded from just serving drinks and cakes to breakfast and lunch.
