A man in his 80s has died after a car smashed into a building.
Emergency services were called to Upper Strand Street in Sandwich at about 2.15pm yesterday.
A police spokesperson has confirmed this morning one person died in the incident and another was injured.
Both were in the car when it smashed into the home.
“A man in his 80s was confirmed deceased at the scene,” they said.
“His next of kin has been informed and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
A woman reported injuries and was taken to hospital.
Officers handed over the scene to the local authority at about 7.30pm in order for the assessment of the structural damage to the building.
The air ambulance was seen circling Sandwich before landing in a field next to Ramsgate Road.
Fire crews and paramedics were also in attendance.
Pictures today show the house has been boarded up.
Christopher Pratt, who lives nearby, said he “heard an almighty bang”.
He added: "Outside I saw a lot of people already there. Then the emergency services came, first the fire brigade. Soon afterwards it was the police and paramedic first responders.
"Then the ambulance itself came.
"I was horrified by what had happened."
A woman neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "I was in my living room when I heard this dreadful noise.
"I went outside and could see what had happened. I went over to see if I could help in any way but it was all being dealt with.
“The paramedics were already there for a start.
“The ambulance came very quickly but it was all a terrible shock."
