Sir Roger Manwood’s School in Sandwich will now be accepting around 30 more pupils a year.
This comes after the governing body voted for a five form entry system in year seven from September 2014.
Previously, there were just four forms per year so this will mean around 30 extra children will be given the opportunity to join the school.
The news was announced on Tuesday that the number of pupils would be increasing to accommodate the growing number of applications.
Chairman of governors Dr Anne Weatherley said: “This decision was not taken lightly but as a school we are proud to serve the local community and we feel we need to increase our capacity in response to the growing number of applications to the school and the increasing number of appeals being made for entry into year seven.
“By moving to a five-form entry model the school will be able to provide an outstanding education for a larger proportion of those local parents who wish their children to come to Sir Roger Manwood’s School.”
Lee Hunter, head teacher at Manwood’s, said: “I am delighted that we will now be able to provide more parents in the local area with their first choice, as currently we are not able to satisfy that demand.”
The move to have five forms instead of four was also a decision made in 2003 for one year, but this should see the model continue into 2015 and beyond.
