Roadhouse Diner at Embassy Truck Stop, Sandwich, closes for day after neighbour's huge fire

A new diner has been forced to close today after a neighbouring industrial building went up in flames.

The fire happened just after 5pm yesterday at Embassy Truck Park in Ramsgate Road, near Port Richborough, Sandwich.

Roadhouse Diner, a popular cafe that opened late last year, was feared to have been affected by the blaze.

However, the damage was contained to another business behind, and no injuries were reported.

Despite this, Roadhouse Diner will be shut today to allow for safety checks.

A post on the eatery’s Facebook page reads: “To clarify, the fire yesterday was in a neighbouring building, completely separate from Embassy Truck Park.

“Thankfully, no one was hurt, but our thoughts are with those affected.

“As a precaution, the Roadhouse Diner will be closed today while electricians check everything over, but we're hopeful it will be back open later this week.

“We'll keep you posted. Again, we really appreciate your kindness and understanding. See you soon!”

At the height of the blaze, seven fire engines attended.

A fire service spokesman said: “Firefighting operations have now finished at an industrial fire in Port Richborough, Ramsgate Road in Sandwich.

“Crews wearing breathing apparatus used foam and main jets to extinguish the fire.”

Local residents were asked to close their doors and windows and avoid the area while firefighters battled the flames.
