Dozens of pro-Palestine protestors have blocked the entrances to a factory producing military technology claimed to be bound for Israeli forces.
The Workers for a Free Palestine group say 150 people are standing outside Instro Precision at Discovery Park in Sandwich this morning.
Signs reading “stop arming Israel” and “UK funds genocide” have been held up outside the Instro site – the company is owned by Israeli-based Elbit Systems.
A sister organisation, Palestine Action, claims weaponry produced there is “destined for use in Israel’s ongoing massacre of the Palestinian people”.
The group shared two videos of the demonstration following the dawn protest on its Instagram page, alongside the caption: “Over 100 people blocked both entrances to the Israeli-owned Elbit weapons factory in Kent.
“Across the country, people are rising up to shut down the production of weaponry.
“Palestine, we are with you!”
In the first clip, activists can be heard chanting: “Free, Free, Palestine.”
The second shows more people, this time shouting: “If you work here, go home.”
Instro Precision describes itself as a supplier and system integrator of support equipment for military and commercial electro-optical sensors.
The firm makes items for military forces around the world such as guided weapons systems, night vision goggles, thermal imaging sites for guns and GPS and displays for armoured vehicles.
Palestine Action also shared footage of protestors climbing up and smashing the roof of Leicester’s Howmet weapons factory which makes drones.
A police spokesman said: “Officers are currently at the scene of a protest outside Discovery Park near Sandwich.”
