Sandwich Technology School is hiring six full-time positions after the school’s restructuring was announced two weeks ago.
A document was leaked to the Mercury which revealed that five members of staff were being made redundant at the school.
The school says that 12 teachers, which the Mercury reported could be losing their additional roles, were offered alternative jobs. In some cases the positions were promotions. The six jobs advertised are the ones left over.
Head teacher Tracey Savage said: “The process that we are going through is a restructuring process, not a redundancy programme.
“It is about ensuring that our resources, both human and financial, are absolutely focused on student learning.
“There were always going to be new opportunities as an outcome of this process, which is reflected by the vacancies that we are advertising at present. One of the aims of the whole restructure process is to strengthen leadership and you will notice that all of the advertised jobs are leadership positions.”
The roles up for grabs are heads of science, maths, history, geography, design technology creative. The school says these are new roles which have been created to improve standards.
The advertisement states the school is seeking “enthusiastic, dynamic and creative classroom practitioners with first-hand experience of driving standards to join our successful and oversubscribed school.”
“The process that we are going through is a restructuring process, not a redundancy programme." - Mrs Savage.
Mrs Savage said: “The staff fully understand the process and the jobs that have been advertised have caused no internal staffing issues or complaint.”
She said it was always the school’s intention that the restructure would lead to unfilled positions being advertised internally or externally.
The school explained it had to make the redundancies and change the structure of the school to save money.
The closing date for applications is Monday, April 27, and interviews will commence on Monday, May 4.
