Disruption fears over Sandwich bypass repair works this June

Concerns have been raised over disruption to traffic during the resurfacing works on the Sandwich bypass.

The roadworks on the A256 are due to start on Friday for seven days.

Councillors have expressed fears that this disruption will increase the problem with lorries.

Cllr John Bragg said: “Police need to be prepared to have a successful presence here when that goes on.

“All we can do is press for a short period and possibly carry it out at night and weekends.”

The Town Team has been liaising with Kent County Council and the works have been reduced from 10 to seven days.

Cllr Michael John Holloway, who also sits on the Town Team, said: “There has been a lack of reassurance. Any disruption to traffic will encourage lorries coming into the town more than they do.”

He suggested the Mayor writes to KCC and stress that there needs to be a plan in place to stop lorries exceeding the weight limit in the town while the bypass is closed.

Further roadworks will also take place from July 14-23 further along the A256.
