Rochester & Cobham's Jordan Godwin finishes one shot away from qualifying for The Open at Royal St George's

Kent's golfers missed out on a place at The Open during final qualifying on Tuesday.

They were competing for just 12 places across four venues, including at Prince's which neighbours Royal St Georges where the 149th Open will be held later this month.

Jordan Godwin, of Rochester & Cobham, came closest after carding 73 and 70 at Prince's to finish tied fourth at one under par.

Bearsted's Matt Ford finished two over par, Tom Jordan (Langley Park) was three over with three players at four over - Oliver Lewis-Perkins (Mid Kent), Ben Quinney (Kings Hill) and Josh Bristow (Canterbury).

Jacob Kelsey (Kings Hill) carded rounds of 76 and 74 for six over, Faversham's Daniel Smith came in at nine over and home knowledge failed to help Ronan McGuirk, who finished 10 over. Littlestone's Jamie Gupp was 11 over par, Francis McGuirk - who qualified for the 2011 Open - fell away with a second round 82 to finish 14 over par and Joe Kelly (The London Club) finished 15 over.

Richard Wallis of Canterbury was four shots away after being tied sixth at St Annes Old Links, carding 66 and 70 for eight under par. Steven Tiley (Royal Cinque Ports) finished on six under after rounds of 70 and 68 while Jensen Hull of Hever Castle finished at level par.

Players to qualify for The Open: At Hollinwell: Daniel Hillier (New Zealand), Jonathan Thomson (Hollinwell) and Richard Mansell (unattached). At Prince's: Deyen Lawson (Australia), Sam Forgan (Felixstowe Ferry) and Connor Worsdall (The Essex Golf and Country Club). At St Annes Old Links: Ben Hutchinson (Howley Hall), Sam Bairstow (Hallowes) and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano (Spain). At West Lancashire: Nicholas Poppleton (Wath), Louis De Jager (South Africa) and Daniel Croft (Mersey Valley).
