PRINCE'S Golf Club professional Richard Wallis is hoping to get a step nearer this week to playing on the full European Tour next year.

The 26-year-old, from Sandwich, who enjoyed a highly successful domestic season, is playing in the second qualifying stage for the 2008 Tour at the PGA Golf de Catalunya course near Barcelona in Spain.

The four-round tournament started yesterday, with 90 players chasing the 22 slots available for the final qualifying stage at San Roque Club in Cadiz, which starts next Thursday.

Wallis said before he left for Spain: "I am feeling good and looking forward to playing in some nice warm sunshine for a few days."
