The R&A has announced that Royal St George’s will host the 2017 Amateur Championship.
It will be the 14th time, but first since 2006, that the famous links at Sandwich, where Darren Clarke won The Open in 2011, has hosted the event.
Frenchman Julien Guerrier defeated Adam Gee from Leatherhead by 4&3 in the 36-hole final in 2006.
The qualifying stroke play rounds will also be played at nearby Prince’s.
Open Champion Rory McIlroy is one of several Ryder Cup team members who have played in the Amateur Championship over the years.
The list also includies Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo, Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington, Henrik Stenson, Louis Oosthuizen, Ernie Els, Colin Montgomerie and Jose Maria Olazabal, who won in 1984, and Sergio Garcia, who won in 1998.
The event will be held between June 19-24.
