Sandwich Town saw their dream of returning to Lord’s after a 20-year absence shattered in Canterbury on Sunday.
And Craig Spanton says he and his team-mates only have themselves to blame after losing against Hampshire champions Sarisbury Athletic in the ECB Indoor East Regional final at the Ames Levett Indoor School.
Sarisbury posted 98 from their 12 overs before Sandwich, the Kent champions, suffered a dramatic batting collapse in their run-chase.
Sandwich were looking good at 68-1 at one stage before their remaining five wickets fell for just 12 runs.
Spanton, a member of the Sandwich side which lost in the semi-finals at Lord’s in 1995, said it had been an extremely disappointing way for the campaign to end.
He said: “We had the game pretty much won to be honest. It was there for the taking."
Young Kent wicketkeeper Ryan Davies made 25 before retiring in the seventh over.
Earlier in the day, Sandwich crushed Berkshire side Theale & Tilehurst by 77 runs in the first semi-final.
