Sandwich captain Craig Spanton won the Shepherd Neame Kent Cricket League’s Spirit of Cricket Award at the league’s presentation evening.

Throughout the season umpires score players on their conduct towards opponents, team-mates and officials. Spanton received his award from Raye Luckhurst, the widow of Kent legend Brian, and took the accolade for playing the game in the spirit Luckhurst himself was renowned for.

Meanwhile, Sandwich will open their 2009 Kent Cricket League Division 1 programme at Lordswood on Saturday, May 9.

Their first home game is against Hythe on May 16.
