A 58-year-old from Sevenoaks has completed a 10-day trek of the Pyrenees to raise money for Parkinson's UK.

Jim Kerr embarked on the challenge in honour of his sister, Jo.

The 75-year-old suffers from Parkinson's.

Mr Kerr set off with a group of like-minded friends on Friday, August 5.

Included in the team were his son and daughter.

He said: "We wanted to raise awareness and funds for research into Parkinson's, so one day we could find a cure for people just like my sister."

The group reached the summit of many peaks, including Aneto, which is 3,404m high.

The seven-strong team started their ascent at 5am, and it took them 14 hours to reach the top.

They have smashed their target of £500, raising more than three times that.

Paul Jackson-Clark, director of fundraising at Parkinson's UK, said: "I'd like to say a big thank you and congratulations to Jim and the team.

"I hope Jim's story will inspire others to take on similar challenges to support Parkinson's UK.

"As the UK's Parkinson's support and research charity, we're leading the work to find a cure, and we're closer than ever. But our work is dependent on donations."

It is estimated that 127,000 people in the UK are affected by the debilitating neurological disease.
