Sevenoaks residents offered help with installing heat pumps after partnership between council and green tech firm Thermly

Homeowners are being offered grants of up to £7,500 to install heat pumps to warm their homes in place of carbon-polluting gas boilers.

Sevenoaks council has formed an alliance with green tech company Thermly to make it easier for residents to make the switch.

The Sevenoaks heat pump platform will see Thermly working with installers to support the district’s 31,000 homeowners with the installation of heat pumps in their homes.

Thermly will help put in heat pumps quickly and easily and give guidance on how to access a £7,500 government grant.

Cllr Irene Roy, the council’s cabinet member for cleaner and greener, said: “The council has made a commitment to help our communities cut their carbon footprint.

“We are passionate about promoting energy-efficient upgrades to create a greener, more sustainable district and working in association with Thermly, we can speed up the adoption of environmentally friendly heat pumps that can dramatically cut a household’s carbon emissions.”

A heat pump is a technology that uses a small amounts of electricity to extract, move and enhance the heat that’s already in the air or ground into homes.

Thermly said the average heat pump can generate 3kWh of heat for a home from every 1kWh of electricity used.
