A children’s charity shop remains closed this week after a fire.

The Sevenoaks branch of the Children’s Trust in the High Street was racked by flames on Monday evening.

Part of the High Street was cordoned off as three fire crews fought the flames for around two hours.

The charity said: “All of our team safely evacuated the building after the alarm sounded.

“We are shocked by what happened but relieved that our volunteers and staff are safe.

“We will be working with the fire service to understand what happened, so that we can learn any lessons to protect the public, our customers, staff and volunteers in future.

“The shop is currently closed and we thank everybody for their patience as we take the necessary steps to ensure the shop is safe for us to reopen.

“In the meantime, please do not leave any donations outside the shop.”

The charity said it was still undertaking an assessment to determine the extent of the damage to the building and the loss of stock.

The Children’s Trust supports children and young people with brain injuries and neurodisability.

It has 14 shops selling items such as clothing, jewellery, books and homeware, including stores in Canterbury and Maidstone.
