Motorists suffered long delays after a crane caught fire on the M26.

The Kent-bound section of the motorway was been closed as firefighters tackled the blaze, which started at around 4.20pm.

Crews needed to use breathing apparatus, hose-reel jets and foam to fight the fire.

It was brought under control just before 5pm.

Reports also suggest a spillage of diesel between the M25 J5/A21 and J2A A20.
