Nearly 100 staff members at a hotel in Kent are fundraising after a colleague's husband was diagnosed with cancer.
Throughout the week employees at the Holiday Inn Maidstone in Sevenoaks will be working to raise awareness of Myeloma UK.
In October 2012 Stephen Gaffney, husband of Esta who is a receptionist at the venue, was diagnosed with Myeloma - a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow.
The then 37-year-old suffered with back pain for several months and eventually paid to have an MRI scan carried out, the results of which shocked his entire family.
The scan showed several fractures in his spine and a number of tumors surrounding it.
He underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy straight away. He also had a number of bone marrow transplants and three years later is now in remission.
Esta, 36, lives in Gilligham with Stephen, she said: "It was terrifying, he had the back pain for a while but we didn't think it would be anything like that. There is no treatment for Myeloma but he is in remission which is the main thing.
"He is always in the gym keeping fit prepared for the next time it could come back. He is very strong and doing really well at the moment.
"Not a lot of people have ever heard of Myeloma so it's great that we are raising awareness and raising money for the charity.
"It's been so much fun doing all the events and it's amazing how many people have helped with it all."
Louise White organised the events which have so far included a raffle, a cake sale and a car wash.
Employees are also taking turns riding an exercise bike continuinally. Each person takes a 20 minute slot and this is continuing throughout tomorrow.
Miss White said: "We are raising not only money but awareness of the condition. So far we have raised over £400."
Tomorrow staff will wear orange as it is the colour associated with Myeloma UK.
