A former pop star turned Kent farmer has revealed he plays his own music to his animals to see if they approve.

JB Gill, who rose to fame in band JLS, said he blasts his songs to his cows and then observes their reactions.

JB Gill, formerly of JLS and now a farmer in Kent, will be on the BBC

JB, who appeared on the X Factor, says he and his former band mates are working on new material for a come back tour.

He told the Daily Star: "We are working on new material and I do play our songs, especially the new songs, to them.

"I play them the songs that might be potential singles or potential album tracks.

"I play them out loud when I'm farming and the animals get a blast of the songs.

"If I sit there and study them, they make noises if they like the tracks."

JLS - which also included bandmates Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes and Oritsé Williams - came second to Alexandra Burke on the X Factor in 2008.

They released four albums, with hits including Eyes Wide Shut and One Shot, but split in 2013.

JB has worked on a farm in Sevenoaks for the last eight years and resides there with his wife Chloe Gill and children Ace, 6, and Chiara, 3.

He is a regular Countryfile and Springwatch contributor, as well as one of the hosts on Channel 5's Live: Summer On The Farm.

Last year, thieves targeted his home during a late night raid.
