A Kent couple who have suffered with major health problems during their life have captured the hearts of a nation after appearing on Grand Designs.

Married Georgie, 33, and Greg, 29, who own the The Brick Works Freehouse in Tunbridge Wells, appeared on the Channel 4 show last night which some viewers are now branding the show's "best ever".

Greg was diagnosed with a brain tumour in his 20s while Georige has been in treatment for several forms of cancer during her lifetime.

The show saw the couple, from Sevenoaks, transform a disused barn on Georgie's parent's grounds into a new home on a budget of £250,000 within 18 months, which saw them became favourites with the Grand Designs' fans.

One woman commented: "I think this might be one of my favourite Grand Designs ever.

"Lovely couple, hard working against the odds and utterly transforming that barn with vision and ingenuity to get past every problem to create a beautiful building."

While PJ Morgan added: "God bless you Kevin McCloud for making these shows. What remarkable people Greg and Georgie are, what an inspiration.

"I’m in tears watching them, such a happy ending."

Twitter user Rachel Mason admitted the show left her emotional, saying: "Wow, this one made me teary, what an amazing story - Greg and Georgie are such an inspirational couple, and the home they've built for themselves is absolutely gorgeous. Good on you both."

In the process of building their new home, Greg said: “The sooner we complete this project, the sooner we can start enjoying the precious time we have together.”

Viewers also heard how Greg proposed to Georgie on top of the Spinnaker Tower on the Isle of Wight where they first met on a trip organised by The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust while recovering from cancer.
