Skeleton racer Lizzy Yarnold wins gold at World Championship

Olympic gold medallist Lizzy Yarnold has today completed a career Grand Slam by taking the title in the Skeleton at the World Championships,

The 26-year-old, who was born and raised in Sevenoaks, has added to her trophy cabinet with gold from the games in Winterberg, Germany.

Miss Yarnold, who was head girl at Maidstone Grammar School for Girls, sat at the top of the leader board going into the final round this morning.

She set a track record to secure victory, registering 57.42secs giving her a combined time over her four runs of 3:49.95 minutes. The win adds to her Olympic, World Cup and European titles.

Miss Yarnold, who picked up an MBE in HM The Queen's 2014 Birthday Honours, thanked her team and said it was all she had ever wanted.
