A man has been left with burns and a property was evacuated while firefighters battled a large house fire in Borough Green.

Six fire engines and a height vehicle were called to the home in Maidstone Road, where, on arrival, they found smoke billowing from the roof.

The fire, which has been extinguished, caused a power cut in 103 homes at around 7.30am after an overhead power line was damaged.

Power was quickly restored to all but five homes and UK Power Networks is working to reconnect the remaining properties.

One man suffered burns and was cared for by paramedics, while a woman was advised to be checked as a precaution for smoke inhalation.

The neighbouring property was evacuated as a precaution and the KFRS volunteer response team also attended to provide care and support for those affected.

Drivers were urged to avoid Maidstone Road because of the blaze.

The road was closed in both directions but is now reopened.

A spokesperson for UK Power Networks said: "Our engineers needed to isolate electricity supplies to 103 properties in the Maidstone Road area of Borough Green at 7.25am today after a fire damaged an overhead power line.

"Supplies were swiftly restored to all but five customers at 8am and work is continuing to reconnect the remaining supplies as quickly as possible."

A Kent Police spokesperson said: "We were called at around 6.10am on to a fire at an address on Maidstone Road, Borough Green.

"Officers attended the scene and closed the road while Kent Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire."
