Residents in Sevenoaks can now recycle more materials than ever before, according to the council.
Changes to Sevenoaks District Council’s weekly recycling collection service mean that residents can now recycle most plastic pots, tubs, trays and all other beverage and food cartons, in their clear recycling sacks.
The council was previously unable to recycle packaging of this type.
Existing materials which can also be recycled include food and drink cans, empty aerosols, foil trays, large tins, mixed paper, plastic bottles, cardboard, and telephone directories.
Cllr Robert Piper, the council’s cabinet member for recycling said: “With Christmas being just around the corner this change has come at a time when families can produce the most waste so it’s really good news and also a great time of year to encourage the entire family to get in the habit of putting things into the recycling and not waste sacks.”
This improvement is possible because the council’s clear sack recyclables are sorted at a modern plant that can separate and recycle these extra materials.
This development follows on from the recent news that the Council’s weekly recycling collection service meets new EU rules which come into force in January.
The rules require it to collect recycling in such a way so it can be used to produce the highest quality materials.
