A teenager is in police custody after a series of break-ins around Sevenoaks overnight.
Police were called to Pinewood Avenue at 4.15am on Monday morning, where they disocvered a number of sheds has been broken into.
A search of the area led to an 18-year-old local man being arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Inspector Nick Finnis said: "Bicycles, power tools and gardening equipment are some of the most common targets for thieves but there are a number of steps residents can take to avoid falling prey to opportunist criminals. One of these is ensuring your garage or shed has an alarm. Our experience tells us that offenders who unwittingly set off an alarm invariably run away empty-handed.
"We would also encourage residents to use forensic marking kits on possessions. These are traceable liquids which carry a unique forensic code, registered to an address or location.
"Local neighbourhood watch groups will be able to advise you on how to do this."
Police have advised residents to kep records of identifying marks or serial numbers of items to help track them.
Other advice includes installing security lights, chaining large items together and keeping gates locked.
