Homeowners in part of the county are rubbing their hands with glee after being ranked in the top five in the UK for the most million-pound properties.

The number of British property millionaires has actually fallen by 35,000 during the past year following house price drops in the capital.

However, that's not dampening the spirits of homeowners in Sevenoaks, which still ranks in the top five in the country for the most homes costing more than £1 million.

A total of 733,777 homeowners now have a property valued at £1m or more in the country, down from 768,553 from last year, according to property search website Zoopla.

Despite house prices stagnating, Sevenoaks, has been ranked in third place in the table with 5,188 homes currently costing more than £1 million.

Last year there were 5,416 homes valued at more than £1 million and despite the fall in numbers, that is still 17.63% of the town's housing market.

The average property price in Sevenoaks is £685,504 and last year the area was rated as the fourth town outside London with the most number of £1 million plus homes.

Sevenoaks has a population of almost 30,000.

Annabel Dixon, spokesman for Zoopla, said: “It’s hard to ignore the overall decline in million-pound properties in the past 12 months.

"But it’s clear to see the majority of this decline resides in London.

“Outside of the capital, there has been significant growth in seven-figure properties, especially in the East of England and West Midlands.”

Guildford has the highest number of seven-figure properties at 5,615, just ahead of Cambridge at 5,426.

Sevenoaks came in third at 5,188, with St Albans and Edinburgh completing the top five.

Some of the most expensive homes in Kent are in the Sevenoaks area, with one multi-million pound house in in Parkfield.

Rivendell is a six-bedroom Georgian-style detached house in about two-acres of secluded gardens.

Built in 2000 with later additions, it has a pool and guest house attached to the main building and a separate one-bedroom flat to the rear of the garage.

Another is in Bitchet Green, Sevenoaks.

Rooks Hill House is a seven-bedroom detached home in just under 11 acres of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

It was originally built in the early 1900s for Alexander Duckham, who founded Duckhams Oil, and was later to The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund in 1940, when it was used as a nursery for children of deceased or disabled members of aircrew.
