A five-vehicle crash blocked the M25 this evening, causing long delays.

The accident happened just after 6pm, closing all three lanes of the motorway.

At least four ambulances were called to the pile-up between junctions 4 and 5 on the clockwise carriageway.

Several people were treated at the scene by ambulance crews.

Traffic was stopped at junction 5 while emergency services dealt with the collision.

Delays stretched back to junction 4 and on the M26, and drivers stuck in the queues reported delays of more than an hour.

At about 8pm Highways England said the wrecked vehicles have been moved to the hard shoulder and all lanes are now open.
