Family pay tribute to Valerie Deakin who died when a car crashed into Costa Coffee in Westerham

The family of a 74-year-old woman who died when a car ploughed into Costa in Westerham on Christmas Eve has paid tribute to her.

Valerie Deakin was sitting with her daughter and best friend when a car careered through a window of the coffee shop on The Green.

The married mother-of-two lived in Udimore, near Rye in East Sussex.

Mrs Deakin had been with her husband for fifty years.

In a statement, her family said: "At 10.30am on Christmas Eve, Val, my lovely wife of fifty years, was enjoying a cuppa inside the Costa Coffee cafe accompanied by her eldest daughter and best friend.

"The shock and loss is indescribable. Modest, kind, exceedingly hard working and above all caring she loved all creatures, great and small, with a passion.

"We adored her. Rest in peace."
