Two people have been airlifted to hospital after a "serious" crash involving a motorbike.

The accident happened on the M25, near the A21, shortly after 2pm.

A police spokesman said: "We received a report of a collision involving a motorcycle just after 2pm.

"Officers attended the scene on the M25 near the A21. Two people have sustained injuries and were taken to hospital via air ambulance.

"Recovery work is ongoing."

Motorists are being warned of severe delays on the M25 due to the crash, which has been described as "serious".

Highways England said the link road from the M25, at Junction 5, and the M26 to the A21 south-bound was closed due to the "serious collision".

A spokesman said: "Police are managing the scene. Highways England traffic officers are on scene assisting with traffic management.

"The link road will remain closed for a protracted period whilst a collision investigation is carried out."

He added that traffic on the clockwise M25 was still able to join the A21 south-bound at J5 but said there were "severe delays on the M25 anti-clockwise between J6 and J5."

A diversion route has been put in place and Highways England is advising motorists to "allow plenty of extra time" for their journeys if travelling in the area this afternoon.

Traffic was earlier being held on the M25, A21 and M26 to "facilitate the attendance of air ambulances" for the crash.

Highways England has since confirmed traffic has been released on the M25 and M26 in both directions.

However, the A21 south-bound exit slip from the M26 remains closed.
