Raising a glass raised hundreds of pounds for charity at a beer festival in Knockholt.

The one-day event welcomed more than 160 visitors to sample craft beers and ciders on offer from The Craft Beer Man, Chris Cheeseman.

Popular band, The Portraits - fresh from their recent Glastonbury appearance - contributed to the lively atmosphere on Saturday, September 6 with a three hour set.

Lunchtime pints, homemade rolls and live music from Mile McCarron kept guests entertained throughout the day and one reveller event attempted the yard of ale challenge.

The event, in its second year, was run by the Knocholt Carnival Charities Committee in partnership with Mr Cheeseman.

The committee raises money for good causes through the organisation of community events.

Its key charities are currently West Kent Mind and a Kent-based refuge for women and children escaping domestic violence.

The day was sponsored by Badger Bathrooms, Chamber Furniture, David Brown Wood Flooring, Linden Landscapes, MJ Rooney Construction and PDM Air Conditioning.

Gill Storey, chair of the committee, said: “We are thrilled that the second Beer Festival was so successful and enjoyed by so many local people.

"Several commented that they had never had so much fun drinking for charity! We are grateful to the sponsors who supported this event and to the musicians who contributed their time and talent."

The committee is now preparing for its next event, a firework display on Saturday, November 7.
