The panels are expected to save the club over £24,000 a year in energy bills and will help reduce CO2 emissions by 33 tonnes per year.

The money comes from funding raised by the council’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), which is a charge collected from home builders on new developments in the area.

In addition, the bowls club has also been granted £20,000 from the West Kent Rural Grant scheme towards the project, with other funding from Sevenoaks Town Council, TARMAC, Sport England and its own fundraising events.

Cllr Julia Thornton, Sevenoaks council cabinet member for development and conservation, said: “We are committed to supporting the district to reduce its carbon footprint, as well as projects that support the health and wellbeing of our residents.

“We are delighted to be able to provide this substantial grant to Sevenoaks Indoor Bowls Club to reduce its carbon footprint and energy running costs. The club is an important part of the community.”
