Convicted drug dealers have been ordered to pay back nearly £17,000 or risk a longer prison sentence.

The confiscation orders were issued against Stevie Murphy and Gareth Morgan, both 35, at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, January 12.

The pair were jailed last year following the discovery of a cannabis factory in Sevenoaks.

The factory was discovered after a 37-year-old woman was found seriously ill at Murphy’s home in London Road, Badgers Mount, in November 2012.

She died in hospital from multiple organ failure as a result of cocaine intoxication.

Murphy was arrested and a police search of his home uncovered 45 cannabis plants in a garage as well as substantial quantities of cash.

Morgan, who is Murphy’s cousin and formerly of Broadwater Gardens in Orpington, was arrested after he came forward to police and claimed responsibility for growing the cannabis in the garage.

Both men then pleaded guilty to production of cannabis and were sentenced on May 1 last year.

Murphy received 21 months in prison and a further 9 months for disguising criminal property, deriving from tax evasion and money laundering.

Morgan was jailed for 20 months for his role in the production of cannabis.

Murphy, now has 14 days to pay the value of his assets of £5,975.

Failure to comply will mean he faces an additional 14 weeks imprisonment and still has to pay the confiscation order.

Morgan was ordered to pay £10,695 within two months amounting to his assets of a Porsche Cayenne and a motorbike, otherwise he will face six months imprisonment by default.
