Residents, landowners, developers and businesses are being invited to submit land for consideration as part of future plans for the Sevenoaks district.
The council is particularly looking for suitable brownfield sites which can be developed to provide housing, employment, retail, community and leisure facilities.
It follows work by the authority's planning team which must use the government’s latest statistics and forecasts to determine how much new housing is needed in the district over the next 20 years.
An initial independent report suggests the district may need around 600 new homes each year, mainly made up of two and three bedroom homes for families, but it is anticipated that the figure agreed for the area is likely to be significantly lower.
The district is heavily constrained as 93% lies within the Green Belt and 60% in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Council officers area asking for help in finding other suitable sites which could be developed for housing.
“I would encourage people to get in touch with details of potential brownfield sites in order to help the council with these very important plans" - Cllr Robert Piper
Portfolio holder for planning, Cllr Robert Piper, said: “I would encourage people to get in touch with details of potential brownfield sites in order to help the council with these very important plans.
"Ensuring we are able to provide the right sites in the right places is critical to us being able to manage new development across our district.
“At this stage we want people to come forward with as many options as possible. We will assess each site on its individual merits, before selecting sites suitable for future development."
The call for sites is one of the first steps of the council’s new Local Plan, which will cover the period up to 2035.
It will set out where and when future development will happen and will be used to guide decisions on planning applications.
Anyone wishing to put forward land must do so by submitting a completed form and plan to show the boundaries of the site by 5pm on Wednesday, November 11.
