The pet went missing from an address in Childsbridge Lane in Kemsing, near Sevenoaks, on December 23.

Officers have been investigating and no arrests have been made.

The RSPCA was previously contacted by concerned residents over the treatment of pets at the property.

A spokesman said: "Earlier ongoing discussions and visits with partner agencies agree that the dog's needs at this property were being catered for as per the Animal Welfare Act.

"In January, following further calls about another dog, a visit from the police to the property has since confirmed there is no longer a dog at the property.

"The RSPCA has limited powers, and can only act within the confines of the law, and often with the support of other agencies."

The charity added it is "very grateful" to people who report suspected animal welfare concerns to them, and would like to re-assure people they will always look into and, if necessary, investigate any complaints made to them about animal welfare.

A spokesman for Sevenoaks council said: "We would however encourage dog owners to ensure their dogs are microchipped and the address details be kept up-to-date as this increases the chances that a lost or stolen dog will be re-united with its owner."
