Train services were disrupted earlier today when emergency services were called after a trespasser was seen on a gantry at Orpington station.

Trains were not running between Petts Wood and Dunton Green and power to the line had to be shut off.

Commuters were able to use their train tickets at no extra cost on London buses between Bromley, Chiselhurst and Orpington.

There were replacement bus services between Orpington and Sevenoaks.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: "Officers were called to Orpington station shortly after 12pm following reports of a man on the gantry. Officers worked to bring the incident to a safe conclusion."

A gantry is an overhead bridge-like structure which supports equipment like cranes.

By 3pm Southeastern tweeted to say services had been restored to normal operation.

This evening, a BTP spokesman added: "The person has been taken to a place of safety."
