A fire fighter has issued a public warning after an out of control candle set fire to a woman's curtains.
The accident happened in Chipstead Lane, Riverhead, on Saturday night.
The homeowner was able to extinguish the blaze using buckets of water but her window, and curtains had been damaged, along with a table.
Danny Barrett, a watch manager in Sevenoaks, said: "Luckily nobody was injured in this incident. It could have been a lot worse.
"We have attended incidents where a candle has been to blame for severe damage to a property and sometimes even worse.
"Whether using candles for light or decoration, it’s really important that people ensure the flame is fully out before going to bed or leaving the room – never leave a lighted candle unattended."
He also issued some advice on fire safety.
Candles should be fitted and placed on a non-flammable surface.
They should also not be left unattended or near curtains, bedding and clothing.
It is also important to have a working smoke alarm.
