Detectives investigating violent clashes between activists and anti-fascists have arrested and charged five men.

An investigation into acts of violence linked to a conference at the Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks earlier this year has resulted in all five facing court dates.

Kent Police officers attended a car park in London Road shortly after 2.30pm on Saturday, April 14, following reports of a disturbance in which one man had been assaulted.

At the time of the event the venue took to social media to say Generation Identitym the group responsible for the booking, had not told them the real reason behind the hiring of the theatre.

They wrote: "In relation to publicity today about The Stag. A group booked a room at The Stag Theatre under false pretences. As soon as we realised they weren't who they claimed to be and the content of the meeting it was ended. All the participants left The Stag within 15 minutes."

During the conference members of the anti-fascist group Hope Not Hate are reported to have arrived in Sevenoaks. A spokesman for the group denied it was involved in any altercations.

“On attendance, the group had moved towards the High Street area and dispersed. The person who was reported to have been assaulted declined medical attention.”

He declined medical attention but an investigation was launched as it was believed other public order offences may have been committed.

Paul Carbine, 31, from Wickford in Essex; Nikolay Atanasov, 34, from London; Sebastian Seccombe, 19, from Manchester; Thomas Greig, 31, from Eastbourne in Surrey; David Rullan-Garrido, 28, of no fixed address, have all been charged with violent disorder.

Greig and Rullan-Garrido were both bailed to appear before Maidstone magistrates on Friday, August 31.

The three other men were all bailed to appear at Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, September 4.
