Great Comp Garden in Sevenoaks hosted a volunteering taster day yesterday morning (3rd June) as part of the 30th birthday celebrations for National VolunteerWeek.
There were a range of roles that volunteers carried out at the park including light garden duties and welcoming visitors from the entrance hut.
People across the UK give up more than 100 million hours of their time to their communities every week and garden’s such as Great Comp in Platt, near Sevenoaks, rely on the support of voluntary work from the local community.
William Dyson, the curator at Great Comp said: “For us, volunteers are essential; the garden is managed by a Trust and if we are to continue to provide a garden sanctuary for people to visit, we have to maintain the garden to a high standard.
“The garden is the perfect setting for volunteering. Our volunteer taster day was an opportunity to both celebrate Volunteer Week’s 30th birthday and to entice more volunteers into our magical garden!”
Refreshments and a season ticket pass to the garden were rewarded to all volunteers for their continuing help and commitment.
