More than 1,000 people attended a firework display in Knockholt this month.

Knockholt Carnival Charities Committee hosted its annual fireworks on the field at the corner of Main Road and Blueberry Lane.

The ever popular event included a bonfire Guy made by pupils at Knockholt Primary School, in Main Road.

An estimated 1,500 people attended the display which included a Catherine wheel, sprialling roman candles and many loud rockets.

Despite a smoky beginning due to the damp weather, the 15 foot high bonfire got the night off to a roaring start.

Knockholt resident, Julie Nation, said it was the best display she'd ever been to.

First-time attendee Rebecca Turner said “It was the first time my family and I have been to Knockholt’s display. We are converted. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, great fireworks and an efficient team manning the car park”.

The event is run by volunteers with profits raised going to local charities including West KentMind and a Kent-based refuge for women and children escaping domestic violence.

The volunteers are key to the success of the event as are the owners who lend the field each year, Coolings Green & Pleasant who provide car parking facilities and Westerham Cars who provided in kind sponsorship this year.
