A BMW driver seen speeding along a major road in an “aggressive, erratic manner” was found to be over the drink-drive limit.
Cameron Brench was spotted by police at the wheel of his grey car on the north-bound carriageway of the A21 in Tonbridge at about 10pm on March 1.
Because of the manner of his driving, the officers decided to pull him over on a nearby sliproad and could smell alcohol on his breath.
The 37-year-old then admitted he had been drinking and was arrested and taken to Tonbridge police station where a breath test revealed he had 59 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35.
Brench, of Cramptons Road, Sevenoaks, pleaded guilty to drink driving when he appeared before magistrates in Maidstone on March 19.
Richard Lamb, prosecuting, told the court Brench had no other convictions.
He added: “The BMW was followed after it was seen speeding and driving in an aggressive, erratic manner.”
Defending himself, Brench - who earns about £2,000 a month working in the building industry - told the court he had been stupid.
He added: “I’m 37 and this is the last place I want to be right now, it’s stupid.”
Magistrates banned him from driving for 14 months and fined him £461 for the offence, and ordered he pay a victim surcharge of £184 as well as £85 court costs.
He was also ordered to pay what he owes the court at a rate of £100 a month.
If Brench completes a drink-driving course his ban will be reduced by a quarter.
