Iron bar attack on husband by would-be robbers

A MAN suffered "nasty injuries" when he was attacked with an iron bar by thugs at his front door.

The victim, in his 60s, was at home with his wife on Tuesday night when the doorbell rang at about 8.50pm.

As he opened the door at the property in Westerham Road, Sevenoaks, two men wearing balaclavas demanded money from him. He tried to shut the door but was hit several times by an iron bar causing him to suffer head and arm injuries.

He finally managed to shut the door and raise the alarm. He was taken to hospital where he was admitted for treatment which included stitches to head and arm injuries and a possible broken wrist.

Kent Police say he remains in hospital today. No money was handed over during the incident.

Det Con Lizzy Bonell said: "Our investigation is in its early stages but there appears to be no motive for this violent attack. The victim has been very brave but has suffered nasty injuries."

She added: "I want to ask anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to think if they saw anyone acting suspiciously, or saw any vehicles arriving or leaving."

There is no description of the two men at this stage other than that they were both wearing balaclavas and one wore dark coloured clothing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 01732 379217 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
