Sevenoaks District Council organises free future walk leaders course

Residents can now embark on a free course which will give them the skills they need to organise and run community walks.

Organised by Sevenoaks District Council, the initiative aims to help people take steps towards a healthy lifestyle by joining one of the Volunteer Health Walk Leader training courses.

The next training will take place at West Kingsdown Village Hall on Wednesday, July 22 from 9.30am to 4pm.

The course will include tea, coffee and a free lunch but places are limited and must be booked in advance by calling 01732 227000.

A spokesman for the council said health walks are great way to take part in regular exercise and, as a high level of fitness is not required, are perfect for those who rarely take part in physical activity.

Cllr Michelle Lowe, the council’s cabinet member for health, said: “Becoming a health walk leader is a great way of helping local people to improve their health while enjoying their surroundings and socialising. The free leader training day will give you a taste of the fun which can be had running your own health walk.”
