A man arrested on suspicion of shoplifting and assaulting a member of staff in Marks and Spencer has been released.

Police were called to the store, in London Road, just after 2.30pm yesterday.

A 35-year-old man from Sevenoaks was arrested on suspicion of theft and assault.

He remained in custody yesterday but has now been cautioned for the shoplifting offence.

A Kent Police spokesman confirmed he was released without charge for the assault allegation.
